Nalunaq Gold Pour on 27 May 2011

Nalunaq Gold Pour on 27 May 2011 – in pictures

The whole process took place in the Gold Room which is a secure area inside the plant. It is monitored by CCTV and it houses the electro-winning cell, the filter press (used to dry the material washed off the cathodes), the smelter and a safe.

This first pour produced a gold doré bar weighing 0.927kg which, at $1,500 per ounce, makes the doré bar worth approximately $44,000. In the scheme of things this is not very much but it is a start that proves the process plant works and we can now build up our output with renewed confidence.

The pour was undertaken by Alex Hamilton (Plant Manager), Chris Ecott (Senior Metalurgist), Raggi Sturlasson (Health & Safety Officer) and Mike Buckland (Nalunaq General Manager).

The pictures, taken mainly by Mike, can tell the story of this important day.
